At aPODD we never sit still, we’re always looking for potential projects/ ideas which may lead to new treatments for children. Currently we have three projects under review but as we have limited funding we’re unable to start these projects.

Drug Repurposing Opportunity for Paediatric Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. An investigator, in the UK, has identified an interesting candidate that shows remarkable activity in an AML disease model. The drug has been used for decades in a completely unrelated indication and it is safe to use in children.

Drug Repurposing Project for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). DIPG is the most lethal form of brain cancer in children and currently there is no cure. We are in contact with academic labs across the world who have identified promising candidates via several experimental routes. We would like to build platform to evaluate these candidates and we are establishing collaborations with technology partners. We are also building a relationship with a clinical trial network in Europe, with the aim of taking the most promising candidates to the clinic as quickly as possible.

Drug Development Opportunity for Neuroblastoma, in partnership with a European biotech company. This company is planning to develop their anti-cancer investigational compound for neuroblastoma, as well as other diseases, as it is showing potential, for this disease, in their preclinical data. They are looking for a non-profit partner, to overcome the financial difficulties of running the clinical studies, to help bring this new drug to neuroblastoma patients
