Meet our Team - Deborah Binner, Trustee, Activist & Mum to Chloe

Every month we will be asking each member of the aPODD team to answer the same four questions. The idea is to give you a little insight into our team of brilliant Trustees.

This month we will start with Deborah Binner.

1)   So Deborah, what’s your role within aPODD?

As a proud aPODD Trustee I see myself as an activist for better kinder treatments for children and teenagers with cancer.  I am a parent, first and foremost of a beautiful daughter who died of cancer aged 18.  Professionally I’m a journalist and communications specialist and believe that these skills are critical for making the case for a much needed new model of drug development in this area.

2)    What inspired you to work for aPODD?

Quite simply the other people involved.  I have a huge interest in innovation and most especially how new technology can open a whole new world of possibility for treating children’s cancers.  The other people involved share this vision – they are innovators, ambitious and people who want to think outside of the box.  They are also pretty good fun to work withJ

3)    What’s your hope for aPODD for the next 12 months?

We have a great offering, but to achieve change at scale we need to partner with other like-minded organisations.  We want to seek out other innovators who are ambitious for change. This is a hugely exciting area, but we must collaborate as quickly as possible. Professional communications and marketing are key components in mobilising people behind our vision.

4)    Tell us something, that not many people know about you?

I’m a coffee addict, love cold water outdoor swimming and like nothing better than bobbing about in London on my gorgeous new vespa moped.

You can also hear from Deborah in her words, as she recently produced a video talking about her daughter Chloe and how their experience drives her work with aPODD.
